每年11⽉份的第四个星期四是感恩节。感恩节是美国国定假⽇中最地道、最美国式的节⽇，⽽且它和早期美国历史最为密切相关。
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year. Thanksgiving Day is the most truly American of the national Holidays in the United States and is most closely connected with the earliest history of the country.
节⽇由来
1620年，⼀些清教徒乘坐"五⽉花"号船去美国寻求宗教⾃由。他们在海上颠簸折腾了两个⽉之后，终于在酷寒的⼗⼀⽉⾥，在现在的马萨诸塞州的普⾥茅斯登陆。在第⼀个冬天，半数以上的移民都死于饥饿和传染病，所以⼤家决定要选⼀个⽇⼦来感谢上帝的恩典。多年以后，美国总统宣布每年⼗⼀⽉的第四个星期四为感恩节。感恩节庆祝活动便定在这⼀天，直到如今。
感恩节的英语In 1620, the Pilgrims sailed to America on the May flower, seeking a place where they could have freedom of worship. After a tempestuous two-month voyage they landed at in icy November, what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. During their first winter, over half of the settlers died of starvation or epidemics. Those who survived began sowing in the first spring. Years later, President of the United States proclaimed the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day every year. The celebration of Thanksgiving Day has been observed on that date until today.
Settler
settler 指来到陌⽣的地⽅开始新⽣活的“移居者/开拓者”，动词形式为 settle。单词 pioneer 或者 explorer 也可以表达跟settler 类似的含义，意为“开拓者/拓荒者”。
Colony
Plymouth（普利茅斯）是英国在美国的⼀处殖民地，地点位于今天的马萨诸塞州Massachusetts。那⾥是⼈们第⼀次庆祝感恩节的地⽅，所以在谈论感恩节的历史渊源时，这个地名会经常出现。
Pilgrim
在跟感恩节有关的话题中，⾸字母⼤写的 Pilgrim 都是特指在 17 世纪初从英国漂洋过海来到普利茅斯殖民地的⼀批清教徒。
这些清教徒的信仰⾮常虔诚，他们分属于基督教的 Puritan（清教派）和 Methodist（卫斯理宗）两个不同分⽀。他们都是 Separatist（分离派信徒），由于不赞同英国对教会的管理⽅式，所以想⼀个远离英国的地⽅坚守⾃⼰的宗教理念。

⾸字母不⼤写时，pilgrim 指的是“朝圣者”；名词 pilgrimage 指朝圣者的“朝圣之旅”。
感恩节吃什么
如今的感恩节⼤餐可选的⾷物可谓五花⼋门，但⽕鸡依然是最具代表性的⾷物，当然还可选⽤鹅、鸭、⽕腿以及各种海产品。
Today, there is such a large variety of food to choose from for Thanksgiving Dinner, but turkey is the traditional main course. Of course, you can choose goose, duck, ham, or even seafood.
感恩节的另⼀种主⾷是南⽠馅饼。此外还有甜⼟⾖、豌⾖，各种绿⾊⾷物也登上了感恩节盛宴的饭桌。
Another modern staple for Thanksgiving is pumpkin pie. Moreover, sweet potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce and other goodies make their way to the Thanksgiving dinner table.
感恩节玩什么
感恩节有⼀个巡游仪式，⽬的在于振奋⼈⼼，为⼤众提供⼀个积极健康的娱乐活动。现代的巡游活动还加⼊⾳乐节⽬，众多名⼈也参与其中。
There is always a parade on Thanksgiving Day. Such parades lift the spirits of the spectators and provide them with wholesome entertainment. Nowadays, the Thanksgiving parades are accompanied with musical shows and celebrities.
感恩节观看橄榄球⽐赛也是⼀个习俗，事实上，⼀些最值得纪念的⽐赛便是发⽣在感恩节这天。
Watching the Thanksgiving Day American football game is a popular tradition in the United States. In fact, some of the most memorable games were played during the Thanksgiving holiday.
