Humans today look very different from how they did thousands of years ago. Human evolution (进化) has changed our bodies in many ways, but there’s a/an     1    that still bothers scientists. Will humans     2    evolving or have we reached the end of the line?
The scientific name for humans is Homo sapiens (智人). Since modern Homo sapiens appeared around 50,000 years ago, there have been few physical changes in our evolution. One argument is that technology and medicine have     3    evolution. Because we are smart enough to build things that solve problems, we don’t need our     4    to adapt.
But many others disagree, and there is a lot of evidence that we have continued to     5    over time. For example, our brains have become a little bit smaller over the last 30,000 years. Scientists say this is because our brains have become more effective. Evolution isn’t just about obvious changes. It’s also about small genetic (基因的) changes happening     6    us. The movement of people around the world has caused humans to adapt even faster. It ha
s become     7    for diseases to spread and the human body has to act more quickly to protect     8    .
Many believe it is foolish to try and predict (预知) the future of human evolution. For example, an extreme change in temperature could mean humans have to     9    evolve more quickly to adapt. Otherwise, it could be thousands of years     10  we see any big physical changes happen.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (冠状病毒) has changed not only our own lives, but the lives of those who live to entertain us. One of the changes I’ve seen personally has been in TV talk shows.
Most US talk show hosts depend on having a live audience to make their shows lively. Audiences laugh when they crack jokes (讲笑话), cheer for their guests, or take part in games. But with social distancing, talk show hosts have to stay at home just like the rest of us. This, however, has made their shows interesting in a new way.
I’m a big fan of talk show hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert. Without guests to interview and audiences to interact (互动) with, they’ve had to put new tw
ists (改变) on their shows. Some of them have been doing video chat interviews with pop stars. Without make-up artists to make them look good, these interviews have really shown both the hosts and their guests in a new light.
Other hosts choose to bring their families or other people on board for their shows. Host Jimmy Kimmel, for example, has made videos in which he plays with his children at home. He even surprised a food delivery (递送) driver with a homemade pizza to thank him for his work.
It is kind of heartwarming to see that even famous people have to struggle (斗争) with the same problems we have while they’re stuck at home. But these hosts still do their best to bring us laughter. They have certainly cheered me up during my time stuck inside.

A. In a different environment.                  B. Being presented in a new way.
C. Lacking make-up.                            D. Discussing one’s opinions.
3. What do we know about Jimmy Kimmel’s show?
A. He became a food delivery driver.
B. He played with his children on his show.
C. He made a cake for a delivery man to thank him.
D. He made a video about how to play with children at home.
4. What is the author’s attitude towards the talk show hosts?
A. Supportive.            B. Hateful.              C. Doubtful.              D. Scared.

I have lived in France for nine years but I cannot walk down the street without being recognized(认出) as an American from 50 meters away before I open my mouth. Why?
In France, the quickest way to recognize an American is that he’ll be the one with the belly(
肚子) and the shirt hanging out. Americans like to wear shapeless black T-shirts, usually too big for them. And they wear jeans and sports shoes all year round. However, Frenchmen are more serious about dressing. Their T-shirts have collars(领子). Shorts have buttons and zippers rather than drawstrings(拉绳). Shoes look expensive.
Americans live a fast pace of life. To save time, they prefer fast food like hamburgers and pies. But it usually takes Frenchmen one or even three hours to have a meal. Americans think of lunchtime as one pm. But for Frenchmen it is 12 o’clock, one hour earlier. This may explain the sad looks if an American arrives at a local restaurant at 1:30 pm. At that time most restaurants don’t have waiters. All the cooking and serving may be done by the boss and his wife. When you are shown to your table, just sit there and wait. Don’t wave your hands to the waiters. Americans think guests should do something to make the waiters pay attention to them. But in France some bread and water will come first, then the waiters will take your order according to the rhythm(节奏) of the restaurant. You need to have enough patience!
1. Is the writer often recognized as an American easily before he opens his mouth?

2. When do Frenchmen usually have lunch?
