An English Debate Contest
Yesterday afternoon, our class held an English debate contest on whether newspapers would disappear.
Some students with good oral English and quick thinking took part in it. The atmosphere was intense. The pro side held the idea that newspapers still had great value and listed supporting evidences. The opposing side thought newspapers would disappear and be replaced by the Internet. Finally, the side which supported the idea that newspapers would exist won the contest.
The effect of the contest was obvious, through which students not only practiced spoken English, but realized the importance of newspapers in spreading accurate information.

Paragraph 1:
Beatrice adjusted her glasses, looked for a moment, but didn’t say a word. She brought out an old photo, in which there was a little boy and a little girl. Henry stared at the photo and said softly, “Beatrice! I’m Henry. I’m your brother.” She said excitedly, “Henry! I can’t believe it! It’s you!” He walked towards her and they hugged. They had traveled far in search of eac
h other for years, only to find they were close at hand. It was the coincidental connection that brought them together. They told each other many stories after their separation, sometimes laughing and crying. I left with tears welling up my faces.
Paragraph 2:
About three weeks later I got a call at my office from Beatrice. “Are you free now to come to our family and friends party to welcome Henry home?” Beatrice asked. I said yes. I hurried over. It was a warm party with all relatives and friends talking, singing, dancing and laughing. I saw their mother’s face brightened. It was a perfect moment for the reunion of the long-lost families. All these years since the party, I’ve cherished my family more. I believe no matter where you go, family affection is always there.
