为了解决这些问题，我们希望通过“单元整体教学设计与实践研究”来促进小学英语教师的专业发展。单元整体教学是优化语言教学的有效手段，因为每个单元都以话题为核心展开听、说、读、写训练，这为实行单元整体教学提供了基础。此外，新课程对教师的教材观、教学观、学生观、评价观提出了新的要求，对教师的专业发展和学生语言研究目标也提出了更高的要求。因此，我们选择单元整体教学作为突破口，力求解决小学英语材使用中的瓶颈难题及小学英语教师的专业发展后劲不足的现状。
